Reflecting on Last Week
  • At our August 15th school board meeting, we honored former Superintendent Wendell Hall.  Mr. Hall served our district for over 30 years as a teacher, coach, administrator, and superintendent.  He was Superintendent of West Feliciana from 1969 to 1989 and is responsible for building the strong foundation that has helped us thrive and prosper.  At the appropriate time, we will rename the WFHS Auditorium in his honor.  In case you missed it,click here to see the The Advocate report on the meeting and click on Livestream to view the meeting.  A special thanks goes to Al Lemoine, Steven Comfort, and Jerome Matherne for providing a very special presentation about Mr. Hall.

  • In case you missed it, The Advocate reported on our After School Enrichment Programs at Bains and Bains Lower.   Please click here to learn more.
  • Caleb Dixon and Paige Gaudin enjoy a free lunch provided to all district students by the Community Eligibility Program.  The federal grant allows our students free breakfast as well.

  • Are you ready for some football?  Our Press Box is nearing completion, our football field has been re-crowned, and we will begin working on resurfacing our track in the coming weeks.

  • Congratulations goes to Derius Davis as a 2017 Pre-Season Louisiana All-State Corner!

  • Student leaders are everywhere!
As I entered Ms. April Davis's class, I was immediately greeted by Dorian Booker, a 7th grader, with a big smile and even bigger heart.  He escorted me to a seat where I could observe the classroom.

  • Another student leader, Mia McFarland, greeted me at Bains while running errands for her teacher.  She impressed me with her efficient manner of getting the right forms to each person in the office.

  • Bains welcomed back their kindergarten students and Pre-K students this week!  We moved up our dates so that families could get back into the routines more quickly and, most importantly, our students could get back in the classroom to grow and learn.  Pictured below is Calleigh Dupont, a Pre-K student, getting ready for an exciting first day!

  • Dr. Henry L. Hardy, second from left, is the Executive Director of the John S. Dawson Foundation.  Dr. Hardy was the guest speaker at Rotary on Tuesday. Superintendent Milton and Dawson Foundation members gathered following Dr. Hardy's presentation. In front are Dawson Foundation Members Nathan D. Price, Mattie Wilcox and Joyce Scott Baskin. In back are Samuel Mitchell, Dr. Hardy, Myrtle Romsey Minor, Vincent Smith, Calvin Miller, Superintendent Milton and Rufus McKnight.

Looking Ahead

  • We are building a faster and more reliable internet network.  We are not there yet, but we are marching closer which each day.  We are running fiber to our alternative school next week and to Bains in the coming weeks.  At Bains, we have added more access points and next week we plan to increase bandwidth as well.  Please pardon our progress as we are a short distance from meeting our goals in technology for this school year.
  • In the coming weeks, our website and our APP will get a new facelift, making both more user friendly. They will be updated more often, and we will add additional content.
  • Bains and Bains Lower will be offering an after-school enrichment program for students.  There will be a cost to enroll your child in the program.  Please check with the schools for more details.
  • The WF Hospital will have its grand opening from 1:00-5:00 PM on August 28th.  The time was extended from 1:00 to 4:00 PM so that parents and employees of our school system might have an opportunity to participate.  If you have not had a chance to take part, I would encourage you to do so.  Our new hospital rocks!
